On that night too they place nuts on the hearth, but grown-ups practice this more than children. They call each nut by the name of a boy or girl they may be likely to marry. Whichever nit is the first to crack denotes the boy (or girl as the case may be) which the person who placed the nut there will marry, and the person whose nut cracks first will be first married.
On Christmas night lights are placed in all the windows as a guide to weary travellers, and on the 6th. January they are placed there again. They are left burning all night. After the 6th. January all the Christmas decorations are taken down.
