    Once upon a time there was a man who was very poor.

    half-crown. He told the devil to change himself into a half-crown, the devil did so, and the blacksmith put it into his purse and gave both to the old woman. She thanked him and left the purse upon a shelf and the blacksmith went back again to his own house. The next morning when she got up, she tried to take the half-crown out of the purse, but she could not, because it was fastened to it. The woman went to the blacksmith's house and threw the purse in the door, and she returned to her own home again.
