their clothes in a river or in a pool of water. One day a woman was washing her clothes in this pool. She spread the clothes on the stones and beat them with a beetle. She found great difficulty in washing a certain garment. She believed in charms and she brought out the cat. The cat jumped into the hole and vanished. Then she had no trouble in washing the clothes.
As she was preparing to go home she removed one of the stones. Under this she found a pot of gold. The old people say that some of the houses now standing in Westport were built with this money. There is a fence around this hole now for safety. The womans name was Mrs. Tabbot. She has friends still living at the mall Westport.
