four corners of the house. On Hallowe'en there are tricks played in every house. First of all the woman of the house makes a cake and puts a ring in it. The person who gets the ring it is said he will be the first married before the finish of the year. Then one of the boys puts a pieces of rag into one saucer or clay in another and water in another. Each person has to chance his luck by putting a blind over his eyes. If (a) the person puts his finger into the saucer of clay he will be dead before the finish of the year. The person who puts his hand into the saucer of water he will go over sea before the year will be out. The person who puts his finger into the saucer of the rag will be begging before the finish of the year. On New Year's eve every household has a big feast in honour of Christ. On St. Stephens Day the wren boys go from house to house singing and playing music and asking money to bury the wren.
