- On Saint Bridgets night girls used to dress up and go around to every house collecting money. They used to get a stick and dress it up as if it was a child. And every one of the girls used to bring one of them and carry it in their arms. Every house they would go to they would get a penny or twopence. Saint Bridgets day falls on the first of February. It is not of a holiday of obligation but the people wear [?] their new clothes. They used [?] a rhyme at every house in honour of Saint Bridget. She was a very holy girl. She used to have convents in all parts of Ireland. She had a lot of cows(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
