Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Rushes and thistles are the most harmful weeds on our farm. The rushes grow in almost every field especially (every field) the damp ones and the meadow.
    They have the grass choked up where ver they grow and they leave the soil poor. We cut and burn them in the mont of April or May.
    We set fire to the growing rushes at this time of the year also. If used for bedding for cattle or manure for the ground the seeds would produce a new crop Wherever rushes and thistles grow the land is consisdered poor.
    It is thought that the 'boucherlawn' or ragweed grows on good land. When I want white maggots to use as bait when fishing, I pull the boucherlawn' and get them at the root. Cattle and sheep eat this weed when it is young and soft. If potatoes are set in damp ground chickenweed and scutchgrass grow there. The potatoes are not so good then
