Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)out of it for the house. One day the old man went for water to the well. When he was out for a good while, his wife got uneasy and went out to look for him. When she went to the well she got him drowned in it. From that on it was called the "well of the Drowning."
There is a district in my townland called Poulty. The Irish form is "Poll Tuighe" which means " a hole of straw." This is the way it got its name. A field of corn was cut and stooked beside a river in that district. The river overflowed and swept the stooks that were near hand into a turnhole. Ever since it is called "A hole of Straw."
This was given to me by Michael Dillon, Muff, Kill, Cootehill, Co. Cavan. He is about eighty years of age.
