  1. One night, about the close of the nineteenth century, a farm labourer named Sullivan attended a wake in the district of Newcastle, about four miles from Bailieboro. He remained at the wake till about 2 a.m. on the following morning and was returning home alone.
    He was crossing a field, when his attention was attracted by the sound of a football being kicked in an adjoining field. On advancing to investigate he saw upward of forty men punting a football in a leisurely way around the field.
