“In olden times it was the custom for someone to make rhymes...”
In olden times it was the custom for someone to make rhymes or songs about any unusual event. The following lines were made by some one in Ballinagh after the big wind.In January '39 I remember that same time,
When to sleep we were inclined,
In bed we did lie down,
When we awoke in screams,
And our houses found in flames,
Which caused us to bewail,
In Ballinagh fair town. But there is none I do deplore,
Or grieved my heart so sore,
As brave John Conarty,
