- About fifty years ago there lived a man in Kinnitty named Bill Fennelly he was so swift a runner that he was called The Telegraph. Though he was often offered boots and shoes he always travelled bare-footed, and earned his living by bringing urgent messages long distances, for farmers and other people.
Once a gentleman driving a pony-trap to Tullamore gave him a lift. When they reached a hill the gentleman allowed the pony to walk, and half way up the hill Bill said "Please Sir let me down for I'm in a hurry". When on the ground he ran and ran and the gentleman did not overtake him, for he climbed hedges, over fences and through fields he went.- Bailitheoir
