  1. Bird Lore
The wild birds I see around my home are:-
Robin, Blackbird, Starling, Bull-finch, Gold-finch, Yellow-hammer, Wood-pigeon, Sparrow (hedge), Wagtail, Lark, Wren, Thrush, Linnet, Magpie, Crow, Swallow, Cuckoo, Corncrake.
The Swallow, the Cuckoo and the Corncrake are only visitors here in the summer months.
The swallow chooses to build it's nest in the eaves of a house, or in a chimney. The materials for it's nest are grass, bits of straw, feathers and mud, these it carries in it's broad beak. It gets it's food in the air while flying. It feeds on insects.
The cuckoo does not build any nest but lays it's egg on the ground and carries it in it's beak to another bird's nest generally a hedgesparrow's.
It's song is only two notes "Cuckoo".
