  1. Severe Weather
At Wilfield House in the Townland of Ballyshane and the Barony of Ballybritt a life was lost on the night of the Big Wind 1839 owing to falling masonry. Miss Crosddale who lived in Wilfield House was in bed on that night when the gale was blowing and became so frightened that she could not sleep so she left her bed and went downstairs. Here she sat at the fire and in a short while the chimney pot fell down and the bricks toppled down on the lady and killed her. She had lived in Kinnitty Parish for many years.
