By Ganges side you can safely ride
    Through the pagan Hindu land
Or on a camel's back o'er the jungle track
    By the savage native planned.
The hills round Killarney, the castle at Blarney
Are climbs that you surely recall
With the road to Lumcloon from October to June
They're not in the running at all.
    III
For miles around there isn't a sound
Not even the howl of a dog.
As you gaze from the bank on a broken crank
And gaze out on the bog.
Your fate is cursed by a tyre that's burst
And there in the stones you are stuck
Try how you may you never will say
    Oh Ireland grand you look.
    IV
At the midnight hour in a blinding shower
    That lashes like ocean foam
With a mocking pang you'll hear that bang
That burst you hopes of home
And out of the night to darken your plight
    The banshee's lonely croon
The bog and brake you'll see them quake
From Gallen as far as Lumcloon.
