- The Local Patron Saint
St Carthage is the parton Saint of this district. Two parts of the monastery still remains. One part is down near the river and the other is near the road. The port near the road is roofed and used as a protestant church. There no are no stories or legends told about St Carthage.
He was not buried in Rahan but in Lismore in County Waterford. He had to leave Rahan and go to Lismore. When he had his monastery built he died. There is no place in the district called after St Carthage but this district is called St Carthages Rahan.
There is no place dedicated to his honour. There are six people called after St Carthage in this district. There are no stories about punishment meted to those who neglected to serve his day. When St Carthage was leaving Rahan he threw the bell into the river. The place where he threw in the is called the Bell Hole. The place where he threw in the bell is supposed to be the deepest part in the river Clodiagh(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
