- Shops were not very common in the olden days.
There was only one shop here and there in the district.The little shops around the chapels used to do a lot of trade on Sunday after Mass. Because people always wanted things, as they had to go a long way to a shop. This is also still done, but they never bought or sold animals on Sunday.The "slang" names of coins are still used about here. A pound is called A Quid, a shilling is known as a Bob, and a Tanner means sixpence.People often give "boot" when swopping things, and if one of the articles was not as good as the other, "boot" is given.
