  1. St Brigid's crosses were made on the day before St Brigid's day and were brought to the Church to be blessed. The custom was carried on up to quite recently in St Brigid's Church Ardagh on account of She being the patroness of the parish. The crosses were made of rushes and when blessed were placed in the dwelling and out houses and were said to bring good luck. They were made thus. The first rush was bent in the middle. The second was bent similarly and the two were hooked by each other. Another was bent and caught at the centre. They were placed round it course after course until the desired size was obtained.
    Holly and ivy are placed at in the windows of dwellings.
    "May bushes" as they are called were brought in on the first of May.
    Palm is worn on Palm Sunday and worn by people and it was also placed before a Sacred Picture or on a bed.
    In JUne glowers were placed before a Sacred Heart picture in honour of the Sacred Heart.
