At Drumcree, Delvin, there is the site of a very ancient battle. It was not known locally by whom the battle was fought but they say there is a field where the bones are supposed to be seen shining at night. The field is owned by Mangans' of Mabestown, Drumcree. It is said that the yard of Mangans' dwellinghouse is haunted and that the noise of the chariots can be heard going round the yard at night. There is a stable in the yard and no horse can be got to go in to it.
Marcella O'Brien of Mabestown got this information from her father.
He also told her that the sound of the cracking of the whips can be heard every night and queer sounds can be heard in the house too.
