- About seven miles from our house there is a holy well and the name of it is Doonass well. There is only one particular day to give rounds and that is on the 15th of August. It is said visited by thousands of people. In order to gain the full benefits you must go to the well three times, one visit each time for three years. The way the rounds are done is as follows.
You must take off your boots and stockings and walk around the well barefotted and recite the rosary and when finished you must kneel down at the well and offer up the rosary and invoke the saints name to grant you your request. Then you must take three drinks of the water and bring home a bottle of the water with you. After the third visit you must hang up a small token near the weel such a medal or a cross or a holy picture. I think that this well and Cragg well are a brother and sister well. St. Commenet of Cragg and St. Sions of Doonass. When the rounds are finished a short walk will take you to a hotel where you can have a splendid dinner at very little cost.
People visit Doonass well from almost every part of Munster. My father(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
