- Not far from my house there is a townsland called Boher. There is a very strong man living there. His name is Matt McGrath. He won the worlds title for weightthrowing in the year 1932.
I have heard that on several occasions Mr. Kenny from Cully used to walk from his own house to O'Briens Bridge in three hours which is a distant of twelves miles.
About four miles from my house there lives a man who's name is Michael Ryan. He is a very quick runner. He ran from Gooig to Kilaloe in twenty minutes which is a distance of six miles.
There were many jumpers in this locality but the one that was the best was Mr Flynn of Kilmastulla. He was able to jump Cool river at its widest point.
Of all the many good hurlers of this parish Jimmie Coffey of Newport is the best. He is one of the best hurlers in Tipperary. He helped Tipperary to win the All-Ireland Final last year.
Not far from our school there lives a man named Mr Ahern. He is a strong man. He won a sliver cup for pulling tug-a-war in Haras field in the year 1930.
Near my house there lives a man who's name is Jack Gleeson. He is a good story-teller. I often listened to him telling stories.
