  1. Daithí de Barra was a poet who lived in Woodstock, where he was born in 1758. He owned a small farm on which he worked during the week, composing his poems on Sunday. It is said that his neighbours made fun of him for wasting his time writing instead of minding his farm. Nevertheless, he seems to have gained some fame not only for his poetry but for his prose, also.
He wrote six books, chiefly translations, as well as poems. These have been collected an an account of the poet and his work given in the "Lóchrann" of ... by "An t-Athair Pádruig de Barra" (The College, Fermoy) who is a descendant of the poet.
Many relatives of Daithí live in the parish.
He taught in the Hedge School in Woodstock.
