- Cill-na-Mullac is a town with many historic associations and the district round is no less interesting in the country's past. Situated as it is in a gap between the Ballyhoura and Mullaghderrick Mts, two long mountain ranges running east and west it is the only approach from the plains of Limerick and Leinster to the fertile valley's of the Blackwater, Lee and Bandon. Thus it owes much of its fame to its geographical position. Almost every invasion of this island has ebbed and flowed through this gap. Here many a stubborn fight was waged and many a deadly ambush laid.
Remains of pre-historic times in the raths and mounds may be seen everywhere, Druids Circles those mighty remains of the De Danaan hosts, who made way for the pure Milesecian: Churches of the early Christian times that were plundered and robbed by the Danish raiders from their fortresses on the Shannon and on the Southern coasts: Towers and Castles belonging to the Norman; and barracks belonging to the Sassanach.
