  1. Bird Lore
The following are the most commonly found birds in my district.
The wren, the robin, the crow, the thrush, the blackbird, the cuckoo, the swallow, the jackdaw, the lark, the curlew, the pigeon, the sparrow and the seagull. The swallow and the cuckoo migrate. The swallow usually flies away in August and when the cuckoo sees the first cock of hay she flies away.
The wren builds its nest in an ivy wall or in a hole in a fence, the robbin builds its nest in a hole in a fence, the crow builds its nest on top of a tree, the thrush builds its nest in a hawthorn tree or in a bush, the blackbird builds its nest on the side of a fence or in a bush, the lark builds its nest on the ground, the swallow builds its nest in the farmhouses on the side of a wall, the pigeon builds its nest on an ivy tree, the sparrow builds its nest in the house eaves. The jackdaw builds its nest on a tree.
The wrens nest is made of moss and hair and feathers, she lays from five to seven eggs, they are very small, and their colour is white, the robins nest is made of moss and hair and wool, she lays from four to six eggs, they are of a spotted colour, the larks nest is made of ferns and withered grass, she lays three darg eggs, the thrush's nest is made of moss and hair, she lays from four to six blue eggs, the blackbirds nest is made of mud and moss and hair, she lays four eggs, the crows nest is made of sticks and moss and hair.
