  1. Hedge Schools.
    Hedge schools existed during the Penal Laws as their were no other schools.
    There were two schools in this district one in William O'Hara's old house and the other was in an old house beside Cloverhill chapel. Michael Hannon that owns this land.
    There were two teachers in this district by the names of:- Mr. Daly and Mr. Young.
    Mr. Daly used to live in Roscommon and the people used to keep Mr. Young on their turn in their own house. The children used to pay them some money every quarter.
    The subjects they used to teach were - English, Grammer, Catechism, Spelling, History and Arithmetic.
