  1. The Leipreachan is known locally as the Leipreachan. He is about six inches in height. He has a red coat and trousers and cap. He used to live in a small wood called the round O, at Old Court, Inistioge. Shoe making was his occupation. People tried to catch him. They could hear tapping a shoe, but when they came near him he ran away. Sometimes they would be friendly and more times they would not. They are said to be human beings. This is a story told how they helped them. A Leipreachan lived in the Comb, a valley about one hundred yards from Inistioge. At this time there lived in the town a poor shoemaker. He wished he could catch the Leipreachan. This day he said he would look for him. When he came to a certain bush he could hear him tapping a shoe. The shoemaker caught him and asked him where had he the gold. The Leipreachan told him that someone was calling him
