Peter Flanagan that he was the stronger of the two. Joe Taylor lived in Kildare and Peter Flanagan lived in Newbridge. They met at the Curragh near Rosmore in the year 1910. Joe Taylor started first; he put a hundred-weight of flour on each shoulder and jumped seven feet.
But Flanagan was not satisfied with the flour alone he got the wheel of an ass-car, tied a strong rope around it, put it over his shoulder and hung it, by the rope from his teeth. Then he put the flour on his shoulders and jumped the seven feet. Flanagan was cheered, and carried shoulder-high from the scene of the contest.
