  1. The following poem was written by Pat Fitzpatrick Carn, Newbliss who died about seven years ago aged about 65. It was written about Mrs. Margaret Monaghan who also died some seven years ago.
    It was Christmas night, the log burned bright
    And the goodwife spent her cheer
    The girls they gathered in to dance
    And the boys from far & near.
    They tripped it light the livelong night
    To violent tune & lilt
    And the mountain dew, the lovelight drew
    As round the board 'twas spilt.
    One lass was there beyond compare
    And she tripped it wild and free
    And a laddie too kind, fond & true
    Embraced her to his knee.
    "Since first I met you, I can't forget you,
    You are all in this world to me
    Iv'e a tidy farm, all free from harm
    You can live in comfort if you marry me."
    She says, "young boy, you me annoy
