- In former times the black smiths were held in great respect by the people of this country. The reason for this was quite obvious because they were the only men in the country who made all kinds of weapons for war. Some of these weapons are still to be had in our museums at the present day. Swords spears pike heads and many others. Now a days the machinery make them so that this takes the work from the black smiths. Now a days the black smiths are no respected as well as in former times. In my half parish there are two forges. Mr P Gaffney and Mr. J Redicon. Mr Gaffney has owned the forge for the fourth generation and Mr. J Redicon(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
