Co.SligoCare of Farm AnimalsWe live in Breeogue and keep a horse, five cows, five calves and four sheep at our residence. They have got no names except the horse whom we gave the title "Bob" and two cows who are called "Bright Eyes" and "Vain Jane"
When we drive the cattle we say "How How". The cow house is sometimes called a byre and is a large house consisting of 6 stalls.
In each stall a cow is tied to a stake by means of a halter.
We do not tie them by the feet or horns as they are quiet and obey our orders.
The tying are made of soft material so that they will not injure the cattle in any manner.
We buy them in the shops except those which tie the sheep, those are home made.
On the feast of St Bridget we make a straw cross and hang it in the cow shed as it is said it will kèep diseases from the stock. The horses stall is a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
