  1. A long time ago there lived an old woman in the townland of Currawn and her name was Gaffney and she lived alone in a little cabin. As years passes by the woman got stifffened up with Rheumatism and she was not able to help herself atall.
    One morning she was found dead in her house and she was so stiffend up that she had to be laid out on a table and tied down with a rope. That night there was a big crowd at the wake and some of the people left early and more stayed on until daylight.
    Approaching three or four o clock in the morning some of the people began to sleep and there was one boy who did not sleep atall and when he got all the rest asleep he put a clay pipe in the mouth of the corpse. Then he got a knife and he said. "God bless us" at that he cut the rope and up jumped the corpse and sat on the table.
    When the other people heard the noise they wakened up and looked over at the table and they saw the corpse sitting on the table smoking a pipe. They all rushed for the door but the boy that done it got afraid and he told the people that it was him and they might not be afraid. They went back again and then the boy that played the trick got uneasy and
