- Long ago the men wore white linen shirts and white moleskin pants. The moleskin was of a fine cord. They wore knee belts around the legs of the pants.With these were worn a beige coat and a vest of the same kind. They wore caps with two peaks on them. A twisted thumb -rope was rolled around their legs instead of socks. If there were two brothers in a house they would have only one suit of clothes between them and on a Sunday one of them went to first mass and when he came home he gave the suit to his other brother who went to the second mass. Their every-day clothes were made of bags. They wore no boots. On snowy days they rolled ropes around their legs to keep them warm. They also wore capes.The women wore red flannel skirts. A red shawl with black stripes in them were thrown across their shoulders. Shepherd plaid three-cornered handkerchiefs were worn around their necks.Margret Gibbons (Same address)
