  1. On St. Bridget's night the children go around with the Brideóg. Both boys and girls go around. They knock at the door and when it is opened they go in and say this rhyme:-
"Here's Saint Bridget dressed in white
Give her something in honour of the night
She is deaf and she is dumb
She cannot speak without a tongue
There are holes in her stockings and there are holes in her shoes
Give her something to mend the two."

Another custom carried on St. Bridget's day is that the boats are blessed and the priest also blesses holy water and gives it to the people. No one has leave to go out fishing before that day. In some parts of the country the people of the house make timber crosses and hang them on the rafters and if that is done they believe no harm or accident will occur in that house from St. Bridget's day to that
