  1. Long, long ago there lived a good man named Columba, who had a room of his own in a friend's house. He was always busy and liked making books - picture books. What lovely pictures he could paint. When a book was finished, he called to the children "Come, see my pictures", and they all gathered round his knees while he told them the stories he had written. The paintings were so beautiful that the children would say, "An angel has helped him to make and paint those pictures.
    One day Columba was sitting in his own little room painting a book, when a little robin redbreast hopped on to the window-ledge beside him. "Will you sing me a song, birdie? "said Columba. And the robin began to sing. This is what
