  1. My old story-teller told me this story yesterday when I visited him. Here it is. Once upon a time it was neither in your time nor in mine, the houses were thatched with pancakes, the streets paved with penny loaves, turkeys drunk wine, pigs smoked tobacco, the robins built their nests in the old men's beards, a black pig ran up and down through Peter Street, in Westport, a knife and fork, stuck in her hams crying out, who would eat her. I wish those times were now. There was a blacksmith who had one daughter, and there was a lord's son talking to her, and the blacksmith told him that he did not want him talking to his daughter, and I will never give my daughter to any man but one who has a trade.
