The failure of the potato crop in the eighteen forty six and eighteen forty seven caused a great famine. Anyone that had cattle or fowl had to keep them in the dwelling house or they would be stolen by poor who were dying from hunger.
The English Government sent to Ireland a shipload of Indian meal
