  1. In July 1895 there was great thunder and lightning storm. It lasted for a day without ceasing and there was much damage done.
    Three brothers the name of Maguire were cutting turf in a bog at Mountain Lodge, Cootehill, Co. Cavan.
    About three o'clock in the evening a heavy shower of rain came and one of them James who was about sixteen years of age went under a cart for shelter.
