  1. I was told there was a hedge school in Baston on the road leading to Moate. It is about two miles and a half from this school. It was situated in Paterick Devery's field in the same place as he has a shed for cattle built at the present time. Sometimes school was carried on in farmers houses. The teacher lodged in the house where she was teaching. Each child brought a penny every day.
    Irish was not taught by the teacher. Writing was done
