- The Lydia was a merchant vessel of 5000 tons out of the Mersey for Monte Video. She had a general cargo. She ran ashore at Ballynamona about three miles north of Blackwater. Her cargo was completely salvaged though the Ship became a total wreck. In a field nearby called the Mill Field auctions of cargo were carried on at certain times for about six months
Cooking pots sold at these auctions had very long legs - well over a foot. Some of these were in use in the locality until recently + were called "Lydia" pots
There were also plates "Lydia" plates to be found in use in many houses and I hear there a few remaining to the present day
