- There is one called "the Moat" overlooking the village of Blackwater - conical in shape. There is one big tree on its slope. It is local tradition that the Danes kept a lot of gold under it. The lane near this Moat is called "the Moat Lane" A farmer tis said made an attempt to plough this "Moat" but the horses refused to work.There is an old Raheen situated on the farm of Aidan Dempsey Ballyvoodock, Blackwater.
Lights are often seen round the place. Tis said that a witch came to Aiden Dempseys grandfather long ago + told him if he put a back door on the house he'd never want. He tried to do so but never succeeded - something always happened + he never finished the work. The house was afterwards burned. At present people never take "firing" from the Ratheen for fear of the witch.There is a raheen in Paddy Cullen's land of Inch. A man coming home late at night heard fearful noises there.There is another raheen on Mr Murphy's land. Mr Murphy is always called Mr Murphy the Moate
