- Long ago most of the people used herbs to cure their ailments.
For Rheumatism-: The Yarrow which is usually got growing in stone-walls is put down in a quart of water and boiled until only one pint remains and each morning for nine mornings a glass full given to the person.
For Chin-cough-:”To go out under a jennets head or between his hind legs.”For the sponsor of the person to tie a red ribbon or red rag around the persons neck.”Give milk to a ferret and give the person who has the Chin-cough the milk which the ferret leaves.
For Warts-:”Rub a black snail of them three times Then stick the snail on a long thorn and as he withers the warts will wither also.”If you chance to go into a forge dip the warts into the water in which the black-smith cools the hot irons.”If you are passing by a rock in which there is a hole and if there is water in the hole dip the warts into it but you must not look for the rock.
For a tooth-ache-: “Put a little piece of soot into the tooth then open the mouth and let the soot run out slowly.” Put a pinch of salt into a cup of water and let it into the tooth.(continues on next page)- Collector
