    In the town of Wexford they built the gallows high
    It was in the town of Wexford where they sentenced him to die,
    It being on one Summer morning when been had gently dawn
    Upon that cursed jibbet that hung my Carrol Bawn

    For he was true and fair, he was proud and loyal
    And only nineteen Summers shone on his golden hair.
    When his gallant brothers had grasped the pike in hand

    When the green flag streamed the forest, he fought for Ireland
    I saw him cross the heather, in the fight that followed the day of misery,
    Sir (?) wounded was he taken home, my Carrol Bawn mychree
    A look of manhood and scornful pride for Ireland's fate and freedom my true love nobly died.
    They made a pathway his colden drill, and the sweet breeze in the churchyard summered over him.
