- Ireland from time immemorial has been celebrated for its Holy Wells and Healing Fountains.There are some Wells in our own Parish, known as, Sunday's Well, St Bridget's Well and many others which are not so famous. St Bridgets Well which is very famous, is situated in Killare on the main road between Athlone and Mullingar, and Sunday's Well is situated in Loughan in Ballymore.The people pay great veneration to those Wells, and they are "wont" to visit them for the performance of certain religious "rounds" or exercises on the feast days of the "Patrons of these Holy Wells. In Sunday's Well there is a stone altar on which Mass was said in the Penal Days. The name of the Priest was Father Dalton.Many diseases are cured with the water of Saint Bridget's Well. There are many old stories about the water of this Well also. It is said that some people brought home to wash and when they had it boiled it was changed into blood.
