    Mount Callan - Sliabh Callán
besides the pattern (patron)Mount Callan has undoubtedly at least two other bright links with the very remote past.
It has been proved beyond surmise that here on the summit of the mountain is the last resting place of Conán Maol Mac Morna. The leacht and tombstone are still to be seen on on the top of the mountain. The tombstone of of huge proportions ,being eleven feet long and one foot thick.
The inscription on the tombstone has been a matter of dispute during the ages but the accepted theory is as follows.:-Fan :lia :do :lica Conar :colgach cosbada:
Not withstanding the different constructions put on the Ogham characters one local man maintained that a version he gave was the correct one and heard from James Mac Curtain whose life i have sketched on page 10 the following satire :-
1 An file breallach do shalaigh an páipéar glan
Gan uaim ,gan aiste ,gan aige acht ráfluigheacht leamh
I n-Bhuic Phegasus is eagal gur baoghal do nach
gach tuatha marcaigh do cleachtann dul clé ar each
11.Fiafruighim fós do'n lómthsch liosta ganracht
Fios ainm an leoghain ,nocé atá curtha faoi an bhfeart
Is do réir a chlódh 'sé an sórt é prioslachán leoin
111.Nách dána an gnó dhuit a lóinthaigh liosta gan chéill
A bhfuil áit do thóna fós le feiscint sa bhfraoch,
Gan dán ,gan nós ,gan eolas
    focal faoi an g-craobh
A rádh go m-ba eol duit scról na seanaibh do leigheamh
