  1. 1. If the smoke ascends straight up from the chimney, the weather will be fine. But if it goes down or veers around, weather will be wet or stormy.
    2. If the mountains seem far away, weather will be fine, but if near weather will be wet.
    3. A blue blaze in the fire spells frost.
    4. If the crows are fluttering around the trees and cawing loudly, a storm is coming.
    5. When the crows build high up near the tops of the trees we may expect a fine summer. When the nests are low down amongest the branches the opposite.
    6. A ring round the sun or moon is a sign of bad weather.
    7. A rainbow at morning is a sailor's warning. And a rainbow at night is a sailor's delight.
    8. It the cats sits with her back to the fire a storm is coming.
    9. When a flock of sheep get up early in the morning and graze, the day will be bad; if they are lying down late the day will be good.
