The Leipreachán (ar lean)
“Once upon a time there lived in Ballyhogan a woman named Biddy Rooney.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Biddy was satisfied, and she said to herself, If I let the neighbours see this they will be asking for some. Just then she said, "I will hide it and come for it to-night." This she did, and she went away home.
As soon as it was dark that night Biddy flung her shawl about her shoulders, and went for the gold. When she reached the spot where she laid the gold she saw it was gone. She went home very sad. The people say that it was on account of her greediness that the Leipreachán took back the gold.
