  1. At the beginning of the 14th century Kilmallock was a walled town and was very closely connected with that branch of the Desmonds called the White Knights.
    It is very interesting to hear how this title came to be conferred on this particular branch. It seems that this title in the first instance was gallantly won at the battle of Hallidon Hill which was fought I think in the year 1333, by one Maurice Fitzgibbon. It appears that his courage so impressed
