    This townland is mentioned in the song known as "Dear Kingwilliamstown ", A famous river known as the Blackwater is dividing Knocknaboul from Carraganes. At the source of this river are still to be seen the ruins of the Earl of Desmond's cave. In former years many people emigrated to England and America from it.
