  1. Hedge schools did not exist in my district at any time but they existed in Kiskeam. My Grandmother told me that she was in an old thatched school in Doon. Miss O'Sullivian was the Teacher. Local teachers were employed. Some of them stayed in the village near by.
    The local name for these schools was Common Schools. Each hedge-school was in a townland and indoors. Geography and Grammar were taught there. All Irish was taught there. Writing was done with a pen on paper or with a pencil on slate. The children were arranged in
