  1. An old woman named Nell Crowley lived at Muine Croiche, in the parish of Newcestown about sixty years ago. I remember to hear her "Caoining" Thade Ryan of Belrose. She "Caoined" him at his house during the wake, and she also "Caoined" him along the road to the graveyard in Kenneigh, the day he was buried.
    This was her Caoine:-
Nior airigheas in aon chor fuaim do céardchan
Ag déainain cruidte nó ag socrú taírgne nó ag bualadh t-uírd go luath mhar láidir
Tá do spré anois a theacht abaile
    Tobach snaois, is píopaí geala
    mo chara is mo muinntir
Tá fhios agam go maith cad do gaill ort.
    Bríste briste agus léine sgaoilte
A's bualadh túird i gcoinnibh no gaoithe
