  1. Most people in olden times made their own candles. This work was very troublesome.
    First the tallow had to be saved and then the wick was bought. Some water was put in a pot to boil, and the tallow was put into it and left there to melt. When it was melted it was fixed in sticks the exact length of the candle and those are dipped into the pot and taken out and left drop which is reapeated until the candles are the size required.
    In later times this costom was done away with
