  1. During the 18th century smuggling was carried on in Barrow, Ardfert, Co.Kerry, by a man named Collace who resided in "Barrow House", which is still in good repair, and occupied by Mr. Hudson, court solicitor in Tralee. The cave where the tobacco was hidden is still to be seen at the back of "Barrow House."
    There is a small harbour between Barrow and Fenit and on each side there is a castle. Fenit and Barrow castles, about 200 yards apart. It is said that when the barques with the smuggled goods came into Barrow Harbour that a chain was put from one castle
